Die spinnen die Amerikaner! - These americans are crazy

"These americans are crazy..."

Starting a new year with a famous quote of our loved children comics - the adventures of Asterix!

The year is 50 BC. DC is entirely occupied by the Americans. Well, not entirely...One small shelter of indomitable Germans still holds out against the american IPA's. And life is not easy for the americans who garrison the fortified camps of Virginiarium and Marlandanum...

It s been a while since the october posts, I am getting occupied with getting not too much attracted to the american microbreweries, which we luckily sorted out on new years eve's party, to celebrate 2016 with a huge beer-shot (BudLight makes it possible hehe)

Yes Zack...it was Bud Light! :)
Still laughin on the picture...the overdose of bud lights makes you even more to crawl into freetime activies...and since the americans don t have a ROCK AM RING, you ll get urself into 9:30 at 9:30 (yes that s the name of a pub, who makes it possible for you to see your all time favourite bands).
Speaking of such a concert at 9:30....my colleauqe and I went recently to the all time satirical trash metal band, which states that they got once captured by aliens.
Unfortunately the expression ALIENS is here a bit misleading, since every non-american under a visa is called an immigration alien, or a working alien with a vald visa as a I assumed to be. So one big mystery to solve would be, were it american aliens who invaded the indomitable Gauls GWAR, nd they now take revenge with their awesoem music?

Let's find out!

As Mr. Gordon Freeman on Haloween...

or as part of the Ghostbusters...with the support of officer L.

Ghostbusters and Officer L.

...we weren't prepared to solve the mystery around GWAR and its inevtiable invasion by americans...but we had a hell of a good time, while GWAR plays Metal, sprays fake blood and gives a damn excellent music performance on stage:

GWAR - 9:30
That was a hell a crazy time...these amercians are crazy. As it wouldn't be enough, we got chased the following days at work...with an army of dinosaurs!

But there are ways to cope with all those lovely challenges, especially my room mater opened my eyes for the solutions:

Still recovering from the new years start, we ll focus now on basic communications for the next blogpost...

American Navigation and the Queen of H St NE

American Navigation and the Queen of H St NE

Welcome, welcome back! After the exausting treasure hunt of searching a queen in Queens in the city that never sleeps, we finally stopped at a local concert scene, to have a few refreshments and jump around in the club

Believe me or not, we had a lot of energy after that drink, compareable to the following video:

We started to meet a few lovely friends from Nick on stage:

and kept partying until 5am in the morning. Time to go to sleep after an excitement run through NYC, the city that never sleeps to find a Queen in Queens...

But the aftermath of the "redbull-energy" kept on going, and by some coincidence, hell a lot of people were starting to line up for the Jamaican Carneval, which starts at 5 am in the morning( which party starts on a Sunday Morning at 5 am? That s crazy) . I first thought Janell and Keidra played a bad joke on me

but people were actually getting started to celebrate...the only point which was left,

How do we get there, and join the party, before the Party-Done-Feeling came?

Since Ray Charles himself (you remember Kellen? :) ) Nick and I were traveling with three ladies (Janell, Keidra and Sydney * ladies feel free to correct the miswritten style), we took control of the navigation, before we start like this:

To do a basic american naviation, there are a few simple things I want to mention and point out,for future searches of  Queens:

DC is divided into 4 Quarters(North East NE, South East SE, South West SW and North West NE).
Horizontal Roads from West to East get a Number, Vertical Roads from North to South get a Letter.

If an american Queen would let you know, she s at 2nd&B St, you ll gotta figure it out to guess that she meant 225 B Street North East, otherwise you are in some other place :)

After figuring out that basic navigation principles( I leave out the Diagonal Streets, cause the get weird names like "Conneticut Ave", Constitution Ave etc.) we could use this knowledge to our advantage and reach the Jamaican Carneval before the sun rose:

Yes, the girls were so nice and left a bit color on me

We lost a few of our partycrew, @10 am in the morning
We kept partying until 10 am!, listening to amazing Carribean Music, Dancing ("take care Claude, the girls gonna eat you") (Party Done...leaving 5 seconds of deep breathing, until catching everyone back up again, and getting home.

On the way home, we passed by the inspirying pub "McLarens" of the famous "How I met your mother"-Series, but that is a different story, and left open to tell in a few years, when I ve found my Queen :)

A good start was on the next weekend, where I found atleast a princess, not a queen, but a princess in DC (who is actually doing her PhD), so let s see:

New York City - finding a Queen in Queens

New York City - trying to find a Queen in Queens

The Prince of Zamunda (Eddie Murphy) went to America, to New York City, to find a Queen in Queens!

To find a Queen, I needed a local,a person who has advanced knowledge in mapping and checking out the finest places in New York City.

Luckily, my Roomate Nicholas, who was basically born and raised in the famous part of the city that never sleeps, was actually planning on to go on my first weekend in the US ( Yes it is also my first time in America, Yes Steve, it is my first time in New York City :)) to New York City to celebrate the glorious NOTV (Nicholas Owen TV, or simply NO TELEVISION ( now you don t have any excuses James, next time we ll meet, I ll gonna check if you still know the abbreviation :D)

The Weather was amazing, and the party spot to celebrate the website launch was on a rooftop, located in brooklyn in the heart of the city.

Perfect place on a rooftop of the appartment of Nick's Cousins (thank you ladies for the amazing stay on the weekend, you have been really great hosts) - to place an ice cold beer on top of the ceiling!

The journey to New York City took us approximately 3.5 h from DC. The good point of it was, that we carried hell a lot of Jamaican Jerk Chicken, which Nick was preparing the last few days for the party, and which was adding an amazing smell through the trunk of the car into the passenger area, where Steve ,was snoring (yes you were!), Nick was mastering his skills in shouting to different cars who could n t drive properly, Kellen (aka. Ray Charles himself in Person) was having good talks with me about Green Building Managment,...and we all got steadily hungry from the amazing smell.

The food was delicious! Music, Food, Drinks, and about 50 people transforming the building's rooftop into a huge partyplace.

Even the owner of NOTV (Nicholas aka Mr. Partyanimal himself) was pretty amused.

Starting the Saturday with less sleep, and amazing Jamaican food,

it was time to explore New York City and focus on the mission of finding a Queen...or exploring NYCs finest architectural history

DOWNTOWN
A VIEW FROM THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
When suddenly there was a need to call for backup...

by pointing in the direction of the home of JAZZ - QUEENS!

Yes, time to fulfill the mission. First obstacle was the Charging Bull (stay calm ladies...no need to get angry)

Since a Queen would need a lot of money...why not start to pay the Bankers of the Wall Street a visit?

Since it was a beautiful day, the attraction to NYC was more close to the city center to shop!

To provide my Non-German readers with a typical sterotype, Germans go crazy after time...and since it was time to find a Queen, visiting the Times Square was the next move!

TIME AT THE TIMESQUARE IN NYC

BROOKLYN BRIDGE
Unfortunaltely on the first day, there was no possibility to find a Queen in NYC, but the city left a huge impression on me. The mixture of different building ages and constructions, the hushing people, soo many cabs and people crossing intersections, until you realize you are just walking by skyscrapers and tall buildings, it was time (you see, we germans tend to refer everything to time) to finnish the first day by getting prepared for the next party, which should start in Brooklyn, by Walking over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Stay tuned for the next Blogupdate on finding a Queen in Queens in New York City, and how to celebrate the Jamaican Carneval at 5am in the Morning after a long party night:

Farewell....German Efficiency in the U.S.

Farewell...German Efficiency in the U.S.

The decission was made, the application sent out, and three weeks passingby, I had a nice phone interview with the office at Washington, DC, including the office in Denver and the Office in Chicace, all people lined up...So the connection was really interesting, trying to find the perfect spot in Biberach to keep the line clear.

Testing my character, this was the resutl:

Since half an year is too short time for a Master's Degree Thesis in the U.S., I was offered a 1-year full time internship as an Energy Management Intern, including the time to write my Master's-Thesis at the same time.

After saying Farewell to all,

( yes, we had an really exhausting night and morning at Kenny's Irish Pub (the Porter House Inn),

in which my dad texted me at 5:30 am, " son, everything alright? you know you ll have a flight later on, is everything packed?"...

at the airport, always the most difficult moment, when you see your parents waiting behind the secure area to see yourself walking away to start the journey, can t wait to see you both again...!

visiting my uncle and aunt with my brother close to Kempten, thanks for the amazing food and drinks

it was time to start the advenure, there...and back again ( some may recognize the awesome triology, soon extended with three more movies by J.R.R.T.) to say farewell.

Also including the final notes from my mom( which she likes to put on sticky notes)

After a direct flight with Condor from Frankfurt Airport to Baltimore, Washington, my week directly started with a nice introduction on the comapany's Homepage, here I am , hellyeah!

Welcome to the Team Claudio!
Home Sweet Home

Since my working hours are starting from 9 am, I don t want to miss the beautiful start into the morning with some amazing and refreshing music, played live directly at the exit of the metro station, directly in the heart of Washington, D.C:
Good Morning D.C, I already fall in love you!

My company is located directly in the heart of DC, literally close to the White House, where I was supposed to meet the President...

Since we Germans are very punctual and time-oriented persons, who always keep their time-schedule in perfect order, I went to the White House. Unfortunately, Mr. President didn't show up to our local regular Meeting to talk about facing the Challenges of Renewable Energies in the U.S., I just assume he just simply forgot to book an appointment in my calender...Welcome to the US.

Starting the Day in the Office

Since my friend Schmitti commented about my late start in the day, I kind of feel efficient to be starting at the Office, when you can explore and feel the silence, which covers the tons of traffic in the heart of the city while I was the second person in the office, my german supervisor was aready there :)...Time Efficiency, I would say the score is 2:0 (Germany:USA)

Pope Francis is comin tomorrow to Washington, D.C., the whole Area around the White House, including our Office will be shut down due heavy crowding. Let s see if I ll get a chance to meet him  if his calender is too full, and he is not able to get an appointment on my calender ( same happend to Mr. President), I ll just follow the hidden source of crowding, as I am sure you ll understand my reasons, explained in the following picture:

Stay tuned for the following update:

Trip to NYC, the city that never sleeps...

PS: Try to spot me in the picture, the first one who comments on the picture, get s a postcard from New York City :)

Ich bin dann mal weg

Ich bin dann mal weg...

Lau goes to Finland...check!
Bachelor's Degree...check!
Master's Degree...still loading.
Thinking about my carreer and everything when suddenly..

The final decission to go abroad again was made on a sleepfull day of lectures in October 2015, some spot located close to the Biberach University (@Nicholas: It's close to Ulm/Munich in the south-west of Germany ;), @Marcos: Bist ja fitt in deutsch ;) , Biberach liegt im Süd-Westen von Deutschland, nahe Ulm/München.

It was a rainy day, friday late afternoon and my professor was talking "blablablabla... International Opportunity, Working Experience, but the lazy Students of Today are afraid to go abroad, unfortunately...)"
He mentioned an american Engineering Company with Innovation and excellent quality.

As my friend Steven always complains about we need to take care of gettin married with work, I was thinking a lot about going abroad, taking bit time off and see somthing new.

So I spontaniously provided an individual application and laid back:
